ADVERTISEMENT – FREELANCE TRAINING PROGRAM

Sunbird Tourism plc, registered on Malawi Stock Exchange, owns and manages nine hotels and resorts across Malawi. SUNBIRD also owns a catering subsidiary, Catering Solutions Limited, which specializes in airline and institutional catering.

In its efforts to build a sustainable and homegrown talent pipeline for its frontline staff in its core operational areas, Sunbird will run a Freelance Training from July to December 2025. This is a rare opportunity, targeting fresh Malawian youths who have no prior learning in hospitality management but have a passion to make a career in this exciting and growing sector.

The Trainees will be exposed to the basic operations of the following core departments of the hospitality industry:

  • Front Office
  • Food Production
  • Food and Beverage Service
  • Housekeeping

To qualify for this training, you should have:

  • Full MSCE with three credit passes including English
  • Resident of a community where Sunbird is currently operating. These are Blantyre, Zomba, Mangochi, Salima, Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Nkhatabay
  • Ability to complete the whole program without break
  • Prepared to enter into a performance bond with the company
  • Positive attitude a MUST
  • Prepared to work long and unsocial hours, by its nature

The Trainees will be undergoing a thorough and rigorous periodic assessments to determine their suitability to successfully complete the program.

Upon successful completion of the program, the graduands will form part of the Group’s talent pool where they will be drawn from time to time to fill emerging vacancies, across the Group.

VACANCIES – AUDIO VISUAL TECHNICIANS

Sunbird Tourism PLC, registered on Malawi Stock Exchange, owns and manages nine hotels and resorts strategically located across Malawi.

In its quest to maintain its standards in audio visual operations and services, the Company intends to recruit well-qualified Audio Visual Technicians.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the above position tenable at Sunbird Hotels and Resorts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain inventory of audio-visual equipment
  • Understanding and collaborating with event coordinators, guests, and other staff before, and during the events to deliver high-quality experiences
  • Ensuring seamless execution of presentations, weddings, and other functions
  • Setting up and operating audio visual equipment for events, conferences, and meetings (e.g. projectors, microphones, sound systems)
  • Troubleshooting technical issues with sound, lighting, and video systems
  • Conducting regular equipment maintenance and inspections
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned by Management from time to time

Personal Specifications:

  • A full Malawi School Certificate of Education
  • A well demonstrated knowledge in audio visual systems
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Technical expertise in AV setup and operation
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Knowledge of various types of AV equipment e.g. Yealink, Logitech
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills
